Purposeful pursuit of knowledge and a thoughtful reflection of experiences are the cornerstones of effective learning. Educators and learners are co-collaborators in this pursuit. Learning occurs through intentional connection with selected content, consolidated with enriched experiences. To facilitate this connection, educators must provide individualized support to each learner. Creating new insights encourages further inquiry and promotes lifelong learning.
To begin this journey, the co-collaborators must learn to respect and trust each other. A meaningful connection to one another precedes an intentional connection to the content since learning occurs best in a psychologically safe and well-supported environment.
Active, persistent, and careful consideration of any belief or supposed form of knowledge in the light of the grounds that support it, and the further conclusions to which it tends, constitutes reflective thought.
John Dewey
When key concepts and conceptual ideas of a discipline become the “drivers” for learning, we lead students to deeper understandings that transfer across different situations.
Erickson, Lanning & French
There are two goals in the experiential learning process. One is to learn the specifics of a particular subject, and the other is to learn about one’s own learning process.
